From November 20 to 24, professors and students of UiT The Arctic University of Norway visited the University of Zadar, the aim was thoroughly familiarize themselves with the aquaculture sector in Croatia, gain a detailed insight into achievements in aquaculture production, and collect relevant data.

This is one of the activity in the project that will result in building a strong framework for future long-term cooperation between Croatia and Norway related to the sustainable growth of aquaculture, as one of the leading and fastest growing economic sectors on a global level. Bilateral cooperation will be strengthened, which will bring together partners from both countries, and the new initiative will represent an excellent basis for further cooperation in the field of sustainable aquaculture and the development of blue skills between the two countries. Such visits enable a deep understanding of the Croatian aquaculture sector, promote dialogue and knowledge exchange between Norwegian and Croatian participants, and open up opportunities for future cooperation and partnerships.

Representatives of the Norwegian University together with representatives of the University of Zadar visited various state of the art facilities:

  • trout farm at the source of the Ruda river, which is owned by the Kro fish company
  • shellfish farm of the company Platforma 22, and farm at the source of the Krka river
  • Cromaris farm in Lamjana

Students had opportunity to have better insight into challenges that sustainable development of aquacuture provides and to learned directly from the first hand about challanges in aquaculture.
